Engineer’s day has been observed in the commemoration of the great Indian Civil Engineer and Bharat Ratna (Award) Mokshagundam Vishweshvaraya, also known as Sir MV. Engineer’s Day has been celebrated on the birth anniversary of Sir MV.

He was awarded the Bharat Ratna for his immense contribution to the engineering sector. 

During his tenure, he was the Chief Engineer of Krishna Raja Sagar dam situated in the North-West periphery of Mysore city.

He also served his country as one of the Chief Engineers of the flood protection system for Hyderabad city in India. 

Whereas in many countries, Engineer’s Day is celebrated, on 4th March, based on a recommendation by the World Federation of Engineering Organization.

The suggestion was given on 25 November 2019 and was proclaimed by UNESCO as Engineering Day for endurable evolution.

But in India, Engineer’s day is observed on the 15th of September for commendation to Sir Mokshagundam Vishweshvaraya. 

Along with India, Visvesvaraya’s significant works are commemorated in Sri Lanka and Tanzania on the 15th of September as Engineer’s day.

This year celebrates the 160th birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, who was born on the 15th of September, 1861, in the Muddenahalli village of Karnataka.
